Sonoran Desert wildflowers

The Sonoran Desert is the wettest and most floristically rich of America’s deserts. Spring transforms the desert floor with a riot of color even though it may not be a banner year. But do you know what flowers you are looking at? On Saturday,
Dec. 1, 2012, Carefree Desert Gardens is pleased to present Cass Blodgett, president of the Phoenix Chapter of the Arizona Native Plant Society. He works tirelessly for various botany and conservation organizations including the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, the Grand Canyon Trust and the Plant Atlas Project of Arizona.

Join Cass for a discussion of our native flowering plants, along with colorful macro photos, key identifying characteristics and interesting information about the flowers you are most likely to encounter on your desert wanderings. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run approximately until noon in the Town Council Chambers located in the U.S. Post Office Building, 100 Easy Street, Carefree.
