CAVE CREEK – Saturday’s fundraiser for Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, drew supporters from all over the valley to the Buffalo Chip Saloon and Steakhouse, to help Pearce face a recall election that is heavily funded by out-of-state union organizers.
While the restaurant and bar were filled to capacity, there were just as many people outside enjoying a barbecue dinner provided courtesy of Buffalo Chip owner Larry Wendt, a long time friend and former colleague of Pearce from their days working for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Wendt kicked off the evening with a few jokes before introducing Arizona Republican Chairman Tom Morrissey, who energized the crowd into a standing ovation in support of Pearce.
Pearce spoke about his record in the legislature and reiterated his stand for smaller government, fewer regulations, lower taxes and the rule of law. He spent most of his time speaking with individuals the crowd and having his picture taken.
A statewide rally in support of Pearce is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 at Hohokam Stadium, 1235 N. Center St., Mesa.
Featured speakers include Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Pinal county Sheriff Paul Babeu, KFYI’s Mike Broomhead, Morrisey and more.
During the morning of Saturday, Oct. 15, volunteers will be walking Pearce’s district.
