Matching grants awarded

Desert Foothills Lutheran Church has been awarded matching grants from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The grants will match funds raised during their Seventh Annual Book Sale, up to $1,000. Matching funds have been designated for Foothills Food Bank and Foothills Caring Corp, up to $500 each. Attendees are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to the sale, through Sunday, Feb. 23 at 29305 N. Scottsdale Road (between Dynamite and Dixileta) in the Fellowship Hall. Special pricing will include all the books you can fit in a bag for $5 on Feb. 22 and 23.

Desert Awareness Committee of FCF presents SCIENCE IN THE PARK

Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Desert Awareness Park. Join the Desert Awareness Naturalists at Desert Awareness Park (Vermeersch Rd. in Cave Creek)  Stay for an hour or all day finding mysteries of the desert.  Meet a tarantula or a scorpion and other desert creepy crawlies!  See how one survives in the desert by using desert plants for food and medicine.  Become a Desert Explorer on a ¼ mile scavenger hunt.  The free event is part of the 2014 SCITECH FESTIVAL, designed for kids, families, scouts and anyone interested in the desert mysteries! If you have ever served or are serving in the U.S. Navy’s cryptologic or cyber warfare organizations, the U.S. Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association (NCVA) would like you as a member. NCVA is an organization of current and former officer and enlisted members and our primary focus is preserving our rich cryptologic history and maintaining contact with those we served with.
