Obituary
David Lawrence Dennison

July 10, 1920 – June 14, 2016

David Lawrence Dennison of Carefree passed away on Tuesday June 14 at the age of 95, leaving behind his sister Ann Agran, his daughters, Karen, Andy and Danny, his beloved companion Michele and a multitude of loving friends. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Margaret Lee Skinner Dennison, his second wife Margaret Lillian (Peggy) Dennison and his son John Lawrence Dennison. Born July 10, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, New York, he was the only son of Lawrence and Daisy Dennison. Dave was active in Boy Scouts, proudly reaching Eagle Scout status. He graduated in the class of 1942 from Princeton University with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He began working for the DuPont company but interrupted his career in the fall of 1942 to join the Ski Troops of the 10th Mountain Division. He loyally served the US Army till the end of World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star. He returned to DuPont from 1945 till 1981 when he retired as European Director of Plastics based in Geneva, Switzerland. That marked the beginning of 35 satisfying years in Carefree and a new chapter in his life devoted largely to public service (and golf ). Dave was elected to the first Carefree Town Council established soon after incorporation, remaining on the council for 15 years till 1998. He became very active in the quest to safeguard Carefree’s water rights and was eventually appointed as Commissioner of the Water Company where he served until 2002. He was also active in the Desert Foothills Library, serving a short stint as President, and remained active in Kiwanis and Junior Achievement until recent years. He was a faithful member of the Friday Poker group at the American Legion right up ‘til the end, winning his last big pot in the company of dear friends. He will be missed. An informal “Celebration of DLD’s Life” will be held locally toward the end of summer, details to be posted on the Carefree Post Office bulletin board in due course. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in his memory to the charity of your choice.
