Nancy Anne Watson Shaw

Nancy Anne Watson Shaw passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and closest friends on September 29, 2013. Nancy, of Carefree, Ariz. was born in Louisville, Ky. on March 26, 1924. She was the daughter of Willis M. Watson and Lucille Wesch Watson.

Nancy was a graduate of the Louisville Collegiate and Ogontz College of Philadelphia, Pa., which at this time had military training. At Ogontz, her senior year, Nancy held the rank of Captain.

Mrs. Shaw was a very active member of her community.  She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, through her ancestor William Fowler, who was a magistrate in New Haven Conn., and was appointed by the King of England in 1650. For over 30 years she was a very active volunteer at the Desert Foothills Library, involved very heavily as a member of the Desert Forest Golf Club, as well as a member of the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church. Through all her years of community service Nancy still found the time to travel, which was what she loved to do. Nancy was one of the first female members of the Circumnavigators Club where she was a lifetime member. She and her husband had the opportunity to circumnavigate the globe 3 times while in the club.  By 2004, Nancy, with her husband and family, had visited over 144 countries and all 7 continents.

Nancy was always recognized as a great supporter of her husband, Retired Colonel A. Park Shaw Jr., as well as the United States Army through the many years they shared. Nancy began her support of the U.S. Military by volunteering with the Red Cross during WW2 while her husband Park was serving in the Army and stationed overseas in the Southwest Pacific.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband Colonel A Park Shaw Jr Ret. of Carefree, Ariz.; daughter Lucille W. Shaw of Payson, Ariz. and was predeceased by her son Albert P. Shaw 3rd.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Desert Foothills Library of Carefree, Ariz. or Sherman Home Hospice of the Valley 5801 E. Mayo Blvd., Phoenix, AZ  85054.
