Update on Pioneer Village and Astronomy 101

Come learn about two items of interest at the next New River/Desert Hills Community meeting. Tony Gutowski, Vice President of the Pioneer Arizona Foundation, will share with us what is going on at the Pioneer Living History Village now that City of Phoenix has the funds and authorization to buy it. The Village preserves and sustains a living exhibit of life in Territorial Arizona, focusing primarily on a 20-year period from the 1870s through the 1890s.

Dan Heim, president of the Desert Foothills Astronomy Club (DFAC), will have a power point presentation on astronomy from beginners thru intermediates with a live telescope viewing of the planet Saturn, weather permitting. DFAC promotes the hobby of astronomy, and increases public awareness of local resources that can help you in your quest for dark skies. Take advantage of the warm summer nights ahead to enjoy this wonderful family hobby. Dan publishes a weekly column at the Foothills Focus online called "Sky Lights" with questions and answers, photos, links, and more.

Everyone is welcome to attend the next NR/DHCA meeting on Tuesday, June 8, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Crossroads Christian Fellowship (42425 N. New River Road).

If you have questions for NR/DHCA or the speakers, you may submit them in advance by contacting NR/DHCA at 623-742-0150 or [email protected].
