Chinese New Year and parallels in the U.S.
Most New Year’s celebrations are fun, sort of fanciful and meant to appease the gods. That is especially true of those New Year’s celebrations with a long history of authenticity like the Chinese New Year. 2016 is the Chinese Year of the Monkey, the ninth of the twelve animals in the Chinese Zodiac calendar. Thanks to extensive research we were able to find that people born in a Year of the Monkey are called “Monkeys.” Brilliant! Celebrations are focused on home and family. Homes are thoroughly cleaned to rid them of “Huiqi” or “inauspicious breaths,” to appease their gods.
In the U.S. it’s a presidential election year that unfortunately includes a particularly “auspicious bad breath” known as “Progressive” or “Socialist” or “left wing nut.” We are calling it the “Year of the Idiot.” The year is epitomized by political panderers expressing views so far to the left that the good gods have sought refuge in the “God’s Protection Program.”
