A new path to art education in the Desert Foothills

SCOTTSDALE, CAREFREE, CAVE CREEK, NORTH PHOENIX – With over a year’s experience with art classes at the Gallery @ El Pedregal and their own newly expanded office space, the Sonoran Arts League is ready to launch a full-fledged “Art Classes for All Ages” program.
Summer 2016 marks the official start of the Sonoran Arts League Summer Foothills Art Academy. The Sonoran Arts League Summer Foothills Art Academy is open to all ages, kindergarten to adults, and will be offered through Education & Community Services (ECS), a department of the Cave Creek Unified School District.

Input needed to help develop recreational target shooting policy for monument

PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Department encourages the public, especially those interested in recreational target shooting, to provide their input for revision of a portion of the Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Sonoran Desert National Monument near Gila Bend.

Jojoba boat ramp reopens at Bartlett Lake

PHOENIX — Boaters and anglers itching to launch into Bartlett Lake can now access the reservoir after the Jojoba boat ramp recently reopened to traffic.

The developed Jojoba ramp reopened Jan. 21, however, the Yellow Cliffs ramp remains closed due to low water levels, according to the Tonto National Forest.

The lake, which sits about 40 miles northeast of Scottsdale, is a popular draw for anglers and boaters from throughout the state.

Town of Carefree welcomes new “YOGA in the Gardens”

New partnership with YMCA supports health and wellness

CAREFREE – Starting February 22, 2016, the Town of Carefree and the Desert Foothills Family YMCA will offer a free community yoga class called “Yoga in the Gardens”, located in the Carefree Desert Gardens, underneath the historical Carefree Sundial on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Tempe Council approves ordinance to help end animal cruelty through unethical dog breeders

Tempe City Council unanimously approved an ordinance this Thursday prohibiting animals to be obtained by unethical breeders.

Around 40 valley residents attended the council meeting to voice their passionate approval and disapproval for this issue; some so passionate that Mayor Mark Mitchell had to remind the audience to be respectful toward everyone.

As natural habitats and native food sources shrink, we see “urban wildlife” venturing into our neighborhoods and our yards. Inviting wildlife into our living space can be enjoyable to observe. Sometimes it can create problems.

Winter Range 2016 Silver Jubilee

The largest Western style encampment in the world will return to Phoenix on February 22 and continue until February 27 attracting participants from around the world. Winter Range will celebrate its Silver Jubilee match and draw over 1000 competitors from most of the 50 states and as many as 15 foreign countries. These competitors, both male and female ranging in age from 12 to over 80 years, will compete in over 35 categories dictated by age and competitive style.
