Desert Foothills Chapter, Arizona Archaeological Society presents guest speaker Jaime Awe February 10
The Desert Foothills Chapter (DFC) of the Arizona Archaeological Society (AAS) is pleased to announce Dr. Jaime Awe an expert in western Belize cave archaeology and Mayan culture as a lecturer on February 10t Doctor Awe was born in San Ignacio Town of the Cayo District in Belize. A graduate of St. John’s Junior College in Belize City, he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours and a Masters Degree in Anthropology at Trent University in Ontario, Canada.

Cave Creek Museum hosts Valentine’s family program and more in February
CAVE CREEK – Arizona turns 104 on Valentine’s Day, and Cave Creek Museum will celebrate a week prior with a fun family program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Carefree. Come learn about Arizona’s history, make valentines, and mark your calendar for some of the Museum’s other programs and events. Located at 6140 Skyline Dr., Cave Creek Museum features an extensive collection of prehistoric and historic artifacts that describe the lives of Native Americans, miners, ranchers and pioneers.

CSHS up and down against the Sabercats
CACTUS SHADOWS – On Friday, January 29 the Cactus Shadows Falcons freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams took on the visiting Sabercats of Saguaro High. The freshman Sabercats committed multiple turnovers in the first quarter, which led to the Falcons 17-4 lead.
In the second quarter the Falcons really pulled away taking a 37-10 lead at the half. Turnovers and miscommunication seem to transpire throughout the whole game for the Sabercats as the Falcons pulled away with a huge victory, 58-16.

Living with urban wildlife
Living in Arizona we see many species of wildlife… small to large…flying to four-legged. As natural habitats and native food sources shrink, we see “urban wildlife” venturing into our neighborhoods and our yards. Inviting wildlife into our living space can be enjoyable to observe. Sometimes it can create problems.

Foothills Community Foundation hosts visual arts lecture series in February
SCOTTSDALE – Celebrate the world of art in February by attending one of the Foothills Community Foundation’s visual arts lectures each Monday afternoon at the FCF Holland Community Center, 34250 N. 60th St. Bldg. B in Scottsdale. Complimentary wine and cheese will be served at 3:30 p.m. with each lecture beginning at 4 p.m. The 45-minute lectures are followed by a question and answer period. Tickets are $12 with all proceeds benefiting FCF.

Red Cross has emergency need for blood donations
Donors needed now after severe winter weather forces blood drive cancellations
TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 25, 2016) — The American Red Cross has an emergency need for blood donors. Severe winter weather since Jan. 1 has forced the cancellation of more than 300 blood drives across 20 states, resulting in more than 9,500 donations uncollected, further depleting an already low winter supply. Blood donation appointments can be quickly and easily scheduled by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Bike run fundraiser provides primary funding for wildlife rehab center
PHOENIX – It’s time to change up the same-old Valentine’s Day routine. Spend quality time on Sunday, Feb. 14 riding on the back of a motorcycle enjoying Arizona’s landscape with your Valentine, all while benefiting sick and orphaned wildlife.
Riders are invited to participate in the family-friendly “Bikers Soar for Wildlife Poker Run” that helps with the care and rehabilitation of animals at the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Wildlife Center, and is hosted by the Wildlife Center’s Auxiliary.
