Arizona receives $24 million grant to develop outstanding charter schools
PHOENIX – The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has announced that the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) has been awarded $24 million as part of the ED Charter Schools Program (CSP). The funding will allow ADE to run a state-level grant competition to support new and expanded charter schools.
The award reinforces the outstanding work Arizona is doing to create excellent school choice options for all parents and students. With guidance from the Arizona CSP team at ADE, Arizona has established itself as a national leader in the implementation and support of successful charter school models.
This year's state grant program awarded $125 million in new grants to eight states after receiving 27 applications. Arizona’s application received the second highest score among all applicants.
As part of its outreach and awareness efforts for the new grant, starting next week the Arizona CSP office will conduct regional information meetings about the grant to ensure statewide dissemination and to provide specific training for the grant application. Additional timeline information is available at the Arizona CSP website: www.azed.gov/charter-school-program/2015/10/06/az-csp-subgrants/.
