Light of the Desert Members Return from Philippine mission trip with Hope 4 Kids International
CAVE CREEK – Two members of Light of the Desert Lutheran Church in Cave Creek have recently returned from a life-changing mission trip to the Philippines, where they spent a week visiting villages to distribute water filtration devices and girls’ dresses made by Dress a Girl (http://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com.)
The duo travelled with Hope 4 Kids International (H4KI), a Christian nonprofit organization based in Phoenix, whose mission is to restore hope around the world by empowering kids to break the cycle of extreme poverty. These members of Light of the Desert were inspired to join this mission trip because of their ongoing partnership with H4KI. For example, Light of the Desert currently sponsors a village in Uganda through H4KI. This sponsorship has included building a church, providing a clean water well, and sponsoring village children.
During this mission trip to the Philippines, the participants also had the opportunity to bring nutritious food to hungry children through H4KI’s partnership with another Phoenix-based nonprofit, Feed My Starving Children. Another critical aspect of this particular trip was providing clean water filtration systems to remote areas that lacked clean, safe water.
"Mission trips like this one remind us how unbelievable fortunate we are,” says participant Ken Howell. “As Americans, I think we often take what we have for granted. This includes basic things like safe water, something that millions of people in the world currently lack."
