Deadline approaching for Mayor’s Constitution Day Contest
Students have a unique opportunity this month to celebrate the U.S. Constitution and its significance … but time is running short to act.
The deadline is Aug. 31 to enter Scottsdale Mayor W. J. “Jim” Lane’s third annual Constitution Day Essay and Art Contest.
“Every year I receive many thoughtful and creative entries for our Constitution Day Contest, and I am looking forward to this year’s celebration,” said Mayor Lane. “I hope that children in our community use this opportunity to broaden their knowledge about our country’s finest document at a time when constitutional issues, from separation of governmental powers to privacy, face the nation daily.”
The contest is divided into three prize categories: first- through fifth-grade students ($100); sixth through eighth ($150); and high school ($200). One grand prize winner from the essay category and one grand prize winner from the art and video category will win a gift certificate to Scottsdale Fashion Square.

Entries can be submitted at any Scottsdale Public Library information desk or at Scottsdale City Hall. Entries may also be submitted electronically to Kelli Kuester in the Mayor’s office at [email protected].
All entries must be submitted, mailed or postmarked by Aug. 31.
The Mayor’s Constitution Contest is sponsored by Scottsdale Fashion Square, the Joe Foss Institute and the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Lane will host a special reception for contest participants and their families on Constitution Day, Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in the Mustang Library, 10101 N 90th Street.
