Dr. Kelli Ward to challenge John McCain in Republican Primary
“Let’s Shake Up Washington Together”
LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ – Dr. Kelli Ward, a State Senator and family physician, announced this Tuesday she will challenge John McCain for Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat in the Republican Primary next year.
A leader on issues such as border security, economic freedom, Second Amendment rights, and healthcare freedom, Dr. Ward acknowledged Senator McCain’s honorable and heroic service to our country in the Navy, but stressed the need for a new generation of conservative leaders in Washington.
“We need a fresh conservative voice in the United States Senate,” Ward said. “I’m running to change Washington, to break up the cronyism, cut the reckless spending, fix our immigration crisis and finally repeal Obamacare once and for all.”
Dr. Ward pledged to highlight Senator McCain’s record on issues that put him at odds with his own party. She cited his votes on the issues of taxes, smaller government, personal privacy and illegal immigration as reasons why the Arizona Republican Party recently voted to censure him.
“We’re going to run a campaign focused on telling the truth to voters,” said Ward. “I know that Arizona is hungry for someone who is an authentic conservative. They don’t want a Senator who acts one way during election season and then another way back in Washington DC. I’ll be a consistent and courageous voice for Arizona in the United States Senate. Let’s shake up Washington together!”
Dr. Ward has held leadership positions in medical associations at the local, state, and national level. A wife and mother of three, Dr. Kelli Ward was first elected to the Arizona State Senate in 2012 and reelected in 2014.
