Take a Hike! And boost your knowledge of the Sonoran Desert
2014 Mountains of the Land Trust Photo Contest is here!
The interactive four-week course begins in late September and presents a wealth of natural, cultural and historical knowledge which, if participants choose, prepares them for ongoing volunteer opportunities with DFLT.
Led by conservation director Vicki Preston, each session will include both classroom and trail time on DFLT preserves. Informative and entertaining experts for each course include local authors, biologists and botanists.
Preston explains, “This is a great opportunity to learn more about the critters, plants, rocks and history of our desert, and to ask all those natural history questions you’ve been wondering about. It’s also a good way to explore the possibility of getting more involved in local land conservation through our volunteer programs.”
Residents and fans of North Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Anthem, New River, Carefree and Cave Creek are invited to join like-minded neighbors to learn more about the rich heritage in our backyard. Sessions will be held on consecutive Saturdays from 9 a.m. until approximately noon to allow working professionals to participate.
Session dates:
September 20
September 27
October 4
October 11
November 1 (optional, free Volunteer Preserve Steward training)
The $35 cost covers all course materials. Participants aged 16 or older are welcome but space is limited, so register soon. To register, please visit www.dflt.org or call 480-488-6131.
