Phoenix Swim Class registration opens May 1; pools open May 24
The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department’s full 2014 summer schedule of affordable swim classes and team programs for summer is now viewable online. Registration for 2014 classes opens this Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. Swim lessons cost just $15.
Each city pool has its own webpage featuring one-click online registration for every class and swim program the city offers. The schedules and complete city pool information is viewable online at phoenix.gov/parks/pools. Information also is available by phone at 602-534-6587 or by sending email to [email protected]. When registration opens May 1, those interested can sign up online with any major credit card or in person at any department community center.
Pools open for the 2014 season on Memorial Day weekend, May 24 to May 26 from 1 to 7 p.m. and then will reopen for full summer operating hours on May 31. The 2014 season runs through July 27. Regular hours will be 1 to 7 p.m. six days a week (all pools will be closed Fridays). Eleven pools also will remain open weekends in August through Labor Day.*
The Phoenix City Manager’s trial budget for the next fiscal year contains proposed reductions that, if enacted, would impact the swim/dive team program and three pools for the summer 2014 season. Please view the pools website for more information. The trial budget does NOT contain any reductions to instructional swim lessons.
Daily admission at Phoenix city pools is $3 for adults and $1 for seniors age 50 and over and youth age 17 and under. A season pass for a family of four is $75 ($7 for each additional family member). A pass for an individual senior or youth is $20; adult passes cost $30. The Kool Kids program is back again this summer, bringing free pool admission to all youths ages 17 and under at select city pools. Kool Kids is made possible through the generous financial support of the Oakland A’s, Milwaukee Brewers, Salt River Project, Watermill Express, Subway and Pepsi.
*The pools open weekends in August are David C. Uribe, El Prado, Encanto, Falcon, Hermoso, Maryvale, Paradise Valley, Pecos, Perry, Sunnyslope, Washington.
