Help seniors “Beat the Heat” by donating summer-safe items
The Via Linda and Granite Reef senior centers provide “Beat the Heat” care packages each June for isolated, frail and homebound seniors. Items needed:
• new reusable water bottles
• nutritional supplement drinks (Ensure/Bounce regular and no sugar, Gatorade)
• bottled water
• small healthy snack items (pretzels, raisins, protein bars)
• unused personal hygiene items
• stamps
• grocery store gift cards for a minimum of $35
Drop off donations at the Via Linda Senior Center, 10440 E. Via Linda, by Friday, June 6.
Scottsdale captures 32nd consecutive “Tree City USA” award
Scottsdale captured a “Tree City USA” designation for the 32nd consecutive year. The Arbor Day Foundation sponsors Tree City USA, a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America. Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards that include: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.
