Recall appears to be on target with plenty of petition signatures to spare
Vice Mayor Adam Trenk deemed slate’s most unpopular
CAVE CREEK – As Sonoran News went to press on Tuesday evening, the Cave Creek Caring Citizens political action committee (PAC) stated it has collected well more than the 293 valid signatures required to recall the four slate council members: Vice Mayor Adam Trenk and councilmen Mike Durkin, Reg Monachino and Charles Spitzer.
The PAC said they have collected more signatures for Trenk, whom citizens signing the recall petitions have deemed their least favorite member of council, than for the other three, although they also have more than the requisite number of signatures for the other three.
Signature petitions are expected to be turned in this Thursday to Town Clerk Carrie Dyrek, who has 10 days to verify the documents as to form before forwarding them to the county, which has 60 days to verify the signatures.
Once it is determined there are enough valid signatures to hold a recall election, each council member is notified of such and given five days with which to resign.
If any of the councilmen do not resign, the town clerk will call for an election and each of the recalled councilmen may submit a statement of up to 200 words as to why they should not be recalled to be published in the ballot pamphlet.
Those wishing to run for council must select a specific recalled council member to run against and collect nomination petition signatures.
Due to the new consolidated election law, special elections may only be held on certain dates and it appears the timeline will require the recall election to be held in conjunction with the November General Election.
