Michael Christie conducts Liszt’s Dante Symphony
The Phoenix Symphony and Chorus come together for an explosive and romantic performance
PHOENIX – Maestro Christie will lead The Phoenix Symphony and Chorus through a performance of Liszt’s Dante Symphony. This work, based on Dante Alighieri’s journey through hell and purgatory, as depicted in The Divine Comedy, is paired with Antonio Estévez’s dramatic La Cantata Criolla, Venezuela’s best-known nationalistic composition. Based on a poem by Alberto Arvelo Torrealba called Florentino and the Devil, the chorus and symphony combine to colorfully paint a tale of a singing contest between the two title characters. Don’t miss Maestro Christie at his best, in the world of great choral masterpieces.
