Operation Homefront receives sixth consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator
SAN ANTONIO – Operation Homefront, the national non-profit that provides emergency financial and other assistance to military families and Wounded Warriors, announced today that it has earned its sixth consecutive 4-star rating from Charity Navigator. This is the top rating awarded by the charity watchdog organization.
“I wish to congratulate Operation Homefront on achieving our coveted 4-star rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency,” said Charity Navigator President and CEO Ken Berger, noting that the rating “differentiates Operation Homefront from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”
“With the end of the military mission in Iraq and drawdowns in Afghanistan, we’ve spent the last year making sure that we’re ready to meet the changing needs of military families,” said Jim Knotts, President and CEO of Operation Homefront. “One thing we will not change is our commitment to being good stewards of the resources entrusted to us. This rating is recognition of the incredible effort and dedication by our Board, staff, and volunteers. We’re grateful to our donors who join us in supporting military families.”
Only three percent of the charities rated by Charity Navigator have received at least six consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Operation Homefront outperforms most other charities in America. Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that the organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way. In the nonprofit world, having 85 percent of total revenue going to programs is considered excellent. Operation Homefront exceeds those expectations with 94 percent of total revenue going to programs.
Operation Homefront also holds an “A” rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy and is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
A national nonprofit, Operation Homefront leads more than 4,500 volunteers with nationwide presence, and has met more than 590,000 needs of military families since its inception in 2002. A four-star rated charity by watchdog Charity Navigator, nationally, 94 percent of total revenue donated to Operation Homefront goes directly to assist service members.
