Summer has arrived at Scottsdale Parks and Recreation!
Summer Concert Series at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park:
Speaking of fun McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is the place to be for FREE concerts every Sunday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. beginning May 6 and running through July 8. Bring a blanket or chair to hear a variety of favorite local bands. Train and carousel rides are available throughout all concerts. Train and carousel rides are $2 each. Children under the age of three ride free with a paying adult. Food will also be available for purchase. McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is located at 7301 E. Indian Bend Road. US Open National Playoff - May 19-21, 2012 - Scottsdale Ranch Park, Scottsdale, Arizona
The USTA announced the return of the US Open National Playoffs for the third year. The US Open National Playoffs will include both men's and women's singles and mixed doubles in 2012. The USTA created the US Open National Playoffs to expand the footprint of the US Open to cities nationwide by providing the opportunity for all players 14 years of age and older to earn a berth into the 2012 US Open. The US Open National Playoffs men's and women's singles champions earn a wild card into the US Open Qualifying Tournament, held the week prior to the US Open. The US Open National Playoffs mixed doubles champions receive a main draw wild card into the 2012 US Open.

The City of Scottsdale presents Racin' at the Basin. a fast, fun, evening running series at the beautiful Scottsdale Sports Complex. Whether you are looking to run your first 5K or a chance to improve your fitness, you will enjoy this fantastic series. Chip-timing system tracks your two-loop run over the fun and challenging course. Individual races are $15 in advance or $20 day-of-race.

Mighty Mud Mania seeks volunteers:
It's cool. It's gooey. And it needs your help. Volunteers are needed for Mighty Mud Mania, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Chaparral Park, 5401 N. Hayden Road. There are all sorts of muddy and not so muddy jobs available. You must be 15 years old to volunteer. The deadline is May 18. After School Programs:
We know it's May and the school year is just winding down, but it's time to start thinking about after school programs for next school year. Thrive After Three: Scottsdale's after-school program maybe just the thing you are looking for. With nine locations throughout the city, it is the program for you. Programs will start Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 and will run until Friday, May 24, 2013. Starts school release times, run until 6 p.m. and are available to children in grades 1-6. Trained recreation leaders will conduct daily activities that include sports & fitness, arts & crafts and nutritional education program.
