SCOTTSDALE – Greasepaint Youtheatre is proud to introduce you to the Director and Musical Director of "Heroes & Villians of Broadway" being performed at our Gala Event on April 16 at Kerr Cultural Center!
About Kelli James and Steven Applegate:
Kelli James has been in show business for an extraordinary 35 years. Born in Iowa, James always dreamed of being on stage, and in 1987 that dream became a reality as she was cast in the original Broadway company of Les Miserables.
Les Mis then led her to perform in some of the most highly acclaimed musicals ever; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond, Evita, Aspects of Love – these are just a few performances in which James made a name for herself in the business.
Today, James lives in town with her two dogs and wonderful husband, Shawn. She has a thriving vocal studio here in Phoenix, Arizona known as "The Broadway Advantage." Each day, James helps numbers of children fulfill their dreams of stardom.
Steven Applegate known as the accompanist to the stars prides himself on being a self-taught musician, beginning his professional career at the age of 20 as the Musical Director for the San Francisco production of the "Rocky Horror Show." He is well known in the L.A. theatre scene and has directed musicals in almost every theatre in town. Steven is an award winning Musical Director and loves doing theatre. His other professional clients have included Sandy Duncan, Lorna Luft, Adrienne Barbeau, Cybil Shephard, Shirly Jones and John Raitt.
Steven also has extensive recording studio experience, ranging from producing and arranging, to conducting and is very comfortable in the studio with a small rhythm section to a large 50 piece orchestra.
