Celebration of art

I hope you are enjoying our wonderful weather and maybe had a chance to visit the Celebration of Art and Fine Art Expo to see some of the League’s Members exhibiting. What a pleasure to see so many artists at work.

On March 26th, I had the pleasure of attending the League’s Celebration of Art held at the Cactus Shadows Fine Art Center. Over 100 children received incentive bags and the Jeff Cross Memorial Bell was awarded to the outstanding High School Senior Art Student. It was such an inspiring evening.

Many of you will have interacted with the League’s employees, Member Services Manager, RoseMary Manchak Ciammitti and Art Education Manager, Crystal White. I think they are both doing an outstanding job and, if you get an opportunity to thank them for all they do on behalf of the League’s Members, it would be appreciated.

This Spring, the Sonoran Arts League saluted our community’s most talented young Artists at the 28th Celebration of Art and the 44th Jeff Cross Memorial at the CSHS Fine Arts Center. The annual award ceremony and exhibit highlight the achievements of one hundred talented 3rd to 12th-grade students from the Desert Foothills area. The budding artists are selected by their art teachers based on their excellence in the Visual Arts. The Celebration of Art Award Ceremony on March 26 had a reception to meet the artists at 4:30pm and a presentation of awards on stage at 5 pm.  Each student was recognized by their teacher on stage and received a gift of art supplies from the Sonoran Arts League to nurture the student’s creative spirit over the summer. The annual exhibit has one piece of art on display from each student and will hang for a month in the lobby of the CSHS Fine Arts Center.

Each year, one outstanding senior’s passion and talent is recognized with the Jeff Cross Bronze Bell Award. Over the past 43 years, most of the recipients of the “Bell” have gone on to make their difference in this world in an art-related field. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Maya Camas, a senior at Cactus Shadows High School.

The Sonoran Art League’s Youth Art Committee organizes the Celebration to recognize local students and their art programs. It is sponsored by CCUSD’s Educational Community Services, the Sonoran Arts League, Steve and Lori Greenberg, and Kiwanis of Carefree.

Congratulations to all!
