All ages gotta’ have art

Robin Ray and Judy Bruce

This Spring, the Sonoran Arts League saluted our community’s most talented young Artists at the 28th Celebration of Art and the 44th Jeff Cross Memorial at the CSHS Fine Arts Center.

The annual award ceremony and exhibit highlight the achievements of one hundred talented 3rd to 12th-grade students from the Desert Foothills area, selected by their art teachers based on their excellence in the Visual Arts. The Celebration Award Ceremony was held on March 26th where each student was recognized on stage and received a gift of art supplies from the Sonoran Arts League. The annual exhibit is on display with one piece of art from each student in the lobby of the CSHS Fine Arts Center.

Each year, one outstanding senior’s passion and talent is recognized with the Jeff Cross Bronze Bell Award.

Over the past 43 years, most of the recipients of the “Bell” have gone on to make their difference in this world in an art-related field.

Congratulations to this year’s winner, Maya Camas, a senior at Cactus Shadows High School.

The Sonoran Art League’s Youth Art Committee organizes the Celebration to recognize local students and their art programs.

It is sponsored by CCUSD’s Educational Community Services, the Sonoran Arts League, Steve and Lori Greenberg, and Kiwanis of Carefree.

The Celebration has changed the lives of over 4,000 students.

The Sonoran Arts League Visual Arts Scholarship was created to encourage the artistic development of outstanding high school seniors and college-aged students who have excelled in the visual arts field and plan to continue their artistic studies.

Up to $6,000 will be awarded in 2024.

Yes, it is true—all ages “Gotta Have Art”!

“Congratulations to the young artists receiving bags and scholarships!”
