We love our towns

Don Senneville and Jim White

Should dogs be allowed in coffee houses? Why would anyone ask such a question?

Dogs should forage for their own food, not have ObamaCare, and live outside with other animals. (Don has a different opinion.) Are Carefree dogs different from Cave Creek dogs? Carefree Sundial Park has 1st class astroturf with fake fire hydrants and clever signage with dog puns and doggie bags. Really!

We are searching for a Cave Creek equivalent. Maybe Grapevine Wash? Dogs in Cave Creek appear to have an interesting lifestyle. They can go to biker bars, rodeos, coffee shops, and feed stores. They even get to run along with horses and riders. Some even have dog houses. Very cool. Carefree dogs probably watch television indoors and have professional groomers.

Strangely enough, after doing the math, we discovered that the value of dogs found in and around most tea rooms is worth more than the GDP of Chad or Iceland.

Remember, we look at the bumper stickers in the parking lot. It appears that some people like Brandon and others like their Goldendoodles. Occasionally, a horse shows up with rider, no cup holder or bumper sticker. Cactus Jack says just black as he trots off to Big Earls.

His to-go cup was a canteen. Are the real horses frightened by the fake life-size herd of metal buffaloes? We love our towns…. AND IF DOGS RUN FREE, WHY CAN’T WE? (B. Dylan)

Speaking of to-go cups, Don appears to be cutting down on his use of them (per his new year’s resolution, following a revelation of some sort, maybe). He’s heard of at least one drive-thru coffee place that will let you bring your own cup. You tell them at the ordering station, and when you get to the window they fill your cup with your order. Someone told Don that what they do is make your drink in a paper cup and then pour it into your cup when you get to the window! What were they thinking?! We will look into this allegation. Don reports that his visits to at least two of our local coffee shops found that they’re happy to fill a clean container that you bring. He wonders what a tea room would do if you ordered a to-go tea. We think “to-go” may be a code word.

The Black Lion Cafe has gone underground. No longer at the Holland Center. We look forward to its next incarnation. Please write to us with ideas. If a tea room goes in, please notify us immediately. Remember the mission of the original Black Lions was to fight facism in Italy in WW2. Haven’t seen that bumper sticker yet. Stay vigilant. If you get coffee from the ROC2 window, be sure to leave the money. The best bumper sticker of the week goes to “Who Rescued Who?” with a paw print decal. We worry about those who have been rescued by dogs. (Should be “Whom…”)
