Desert rural lifestyle

Let’s not be so accepting of unnecessary re-zoning changes.

Let’s not become regretful of a Cave Creek we didn’t know we could one day miss.

It would be shortsighted to think we couldn’t have a very different profile one day, a profile that features residences in town core where businesses are located, where we will have to drive to Carefree Highway for restaurants and shopping.

As Cave Creek residents we appreciate the representation of Councilman Dusty Rhoades regarding his recent “Why I did not support the Cave Creek ’23-’24 budget. His most poignant words “budgets at any level of government should reflect the priorities of the people…” followed up by closing with three strongly worded paragraphs.

Attending recent town meetings I was equally impressed with his comments and inquiries regarding development re-zoning, prudently and objectively considering what is best for the Town of Cave Creek and residents.

Re-zoning has been controversial in our community, both in the town core and along the Carefree Highway corridor. There are numerous commercially zoned properties available for future commercial development without re-zoning more desert residential rural properties. We need to remain united in small area plans regarding residential impact along the Carefree Highway Corridor and along Cave Creek Rd leading into town, as well as commercial buffer zoning and enforcement in the town core itself.

A well written letter by Reg Monachino in the Sonoran News, July 5, 2023 explains the lack of zoning enforcement by council representatives regarding potential future impacts on our community. Now more than ever it’s time to keep our zoning and ordinances in the hands of those representing us and safeguard them from a few who think they know what is best for Cave Creek.

My husband and I remain thankful to Councilmen Dusty Rhoades, Paul Elkema, Tom Aughterton, and Councilwoman Kathryn Royer for their representation. Their desire to keep Cave Creek a Desert Rural lifestyle community as well as a vibrant downtown vision is an obvious priority.

Respectfully,

Terry Webb
