Linda Garvin

Linda Garvin passed away on April 24, after a long illness, in her home on the island of St. Croix, with her husband Bill Boyton at her side. Her last days were peaceful and quiet, thanks to Continuum Care and their amazing staff who made it possible to fulfill Linda’s wish for the end of her life to be in her control. Linda lived well for 74 years.

Before St. Croix, Linda played many roles for over 25 years in Arizona. She was first and foremost a teacher—English, Speech, Librarian, Drama. She served as Class Sponsor, President of the Cave Creek Education Association, Summer School Coordinator, Speech Team Sponsor, and Drama Club Sponsor. She continually challenged her students, guiding them in stagecraft, lighting, sound, directing, song and dance, and acting. On the community level, she participated in several Habitat for Humanity projects, sat with preemie babies at a children’s hospital, and joined several community theater productions. She was involved in the Cave Creek Christmas Pageant for many years, wrangling both actors and animals.

On St. Croix Linda continued teaching, inspiring students, always her first passion. She supported the Arts by volunteering at the Art Museum, the Community Theater and the High School Theater. She managed an outreach programs for retirees, and loved being a part of the Leatherback Turtle Watch project. She brought all her skills and passions to her final project: organizing hundreds of volunteers to build the Cummins Playground Park in Frederiksted.

It’s a place that her great-grandchildren will one day enjoy.

Linda Garvin touched the lives of so many on St. Croix and in Arizona. The reflection of her love is found in the smiles and stories of all who knew her. We ask that you all share Linda’s story: tell it again and again so that the mark she made can live on. Hopefully her story inspires others to action!

There will be a Linda Garvin Gathering at the Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center on Saturday, August 5, 2023, 3:00 to 5:00 PM. See rsvp.LindaGarvinGathering.org for more information and to RSVP.
