It’s funny what money can make people say and do. In their quest for a $2 million property tax levy, our Carefree Town Council has lied to us. Rural Metro (RM) has provided Carefree with excellent fire and emergency service since 1968…. over 50 years!! Now we hear that RM cannot keep us safe anymore. What nonsense!
They claim that RM will not respond quickly when we call. RM’s response time is currently less than 4 minutes!
They claim that RM has no back-up in the event of sustained emergencies. RM has 2 fully staffed fire companies in our Carefree fire house!
They claim that RM sends less firefighters to an emergency. They send more; 3 in the engine and 2 in the ambulance to every event. Automatic Aid (“AA”) dispatches only one truck initially.
The AA system, which is why the local property tax is being proposed, is wasteful spending for Carefree and is lower quality service. Rural Metro is the most cost-effective fire and emergency service option by far; about $2 million less in year one of a conversion to AA.
Staying with RM makes the property tax unnecessary and maintains local fire coverage by local firefighters who know our town. Local firefighters respond quicker because they know where they are going. AA would respond with whatever resources are dispatched, not necessarily local resources.
We now have two fully staffed engines in Carefree: 821 and 825, which gives us internal backup fire and emergency medical service without any outside resources. Right in our firehouse.
The current town budget can handle the Rural Metro fire and emergency service, but not the proposed Automatic Aid.
Stay safe, Carefree taxpayers. Vote “NO” on local property taxes to keep our local firefighters.
