Enforcing the laws

My wife and I escaped crime-ridden Chicago two years ago and moved to the wonderful community of Carefree. It’s a charming little town, and the Sonoran Desert is absolutely breathtaking!

If the town is going to live up to its motto: The best small town in America, it needs to actually enforce its codes and ordinances. “80 Decibel Noise Limit.” Really? I hear 80+ decibel motorcycles on a weekly basis! Who’s enforcing this ordinance? How many $750 fines have been levied over the years?

“All Terrain Vehicles Prohibited.” Town code 6.2.5. I can personally attest that this sign is not effective or enforced. I live on Galloway Wash and there has been a very noticeable increase in all terrain vehicles driving through our property after midnight. Town officials hem and haw about doing something saying they can’t disrupt the flood waters with barriers, and they are concerned about injuring all terrain vehicle scofflaws. Not acceptable. What good are laws/signs if they are not enforced?

Chicago has the most onerous gun laws in America. And because they don’t enforce their laws and hold criminals accountable, that city experiences 4,000 gunshot victims annually! The moral of this story is laws are only respected and effective when they’re enforced.
