Cave Creek students shout “Olé, Olé, Olé” for the Embassy of Spain

Special guests included (from left to right), Sra. Petra Rodriguez Conde-Nemeth (President of the Arizona-Spanish Cultural Association), Sr. Alfredo Molina (Honorary Consul of Spain in Phoenix), Mrs. Cynthia Weiss (CCUSD Governing Board President), Mrs. Cristina Ladas, (CCUSD World Language Programs Coordinator), Principal Dr. Rodney Egan, and Sr. Antonio Caballero (Embassy of Spain Education Advisor).

Desert Willow Elementary students in Cave Creek Unified School District responded with a loud “Olé, Olé, Olé” upon hearing that they now belong to the first school in Arizona to receive official accreditation from the Embassy of Spain. Representatives of the Embassy of Spain toured the Spanish Immersion program at Desert Willow School and then facilitated the school’s induction into its network of 137 International Spanish Academies (ISA) that span the U.S. and Canada. This ISA network only accepts Spanish Immersion schools that adhere to high programmatic standards and that have a history of successfully hosting International Visiting Teachers/Interns from Spain. This event also coincided with the Spanish Immersion program’s 15-year anniversary and was attended by all PK-6th grade students, parents, and staff.
