Black Mountain Foothills Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution Carefree/Cave Creek…a busy local DAR chapter

– Black Mountain Foothills Chapter September speaker, Evelyn Johnson presented a lovely program on community service and our founding regent, Carey Wilcox. The event was held in the little church on the grounds of CCM. Sarah Ziker was presented with a DAR Community Service Award for her volunteer work at Foothills Food Bank and Cave Creek Museum.

– The women toured and learned about Watson’s hat shop in October. What fun it was to see all the old machinery and hat forms. Eric Watson showed the different types and grades of fabric that is used in Cave Creek.

– Doris Baines was our November speaker at the Desert Foothills Library on “Christmas Traditions and Legends” A noted author who has been on the Today show gave us fun facts and information about the holidays. Our members participated in Cave Creek’s Wild West Days parade and passed out cookies to vets and families at the Carefree Veteran’s Day celebration.

– Allison Withers named Outstanding Junior Member for Black Mountain Foothills Chapter

On December 13, Vicki Bobo, Sarah Ziker, and Marianne Hardy personally presented a large donation to Michael Herbert of the Veterans Administration Voluntary Services. They got a tour of the facility and watched VAVS volunteers packing Christmas food boxes.

December 2 was an outstanding day for BMF chapter. Vi at Silverstone in Scottsdale hosted our “Colonial Holiday Tea”, a charity event for Phoenix VA. Sarah Ziker and Vicki Bobo were in charge. Daughters and guests donated the cost of a lunch as their admission fee. They were entertained by the ViTones and Arizona SAR Color Guard.
