Custom Accounting wins key workplace award

By Curtis Riggs | June 17, 2009

CAREFREE – Local CPA Lisa Johnston, owner of Custom Accounting & Tax, recently won the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for innovative office practices.

Johnston has created flexible schedules for her employees, which allows them to better attend to their office and home lives. Her employees are effectively cross-trained so the office functions well even when a key employee is ill.

The Alfred P. Sloan award for business excellence in workplace flexibility is part of the When Work Works program, which encourages businesses to use innovative ways to make employees more productive and happier in the workplace.

Johnston was also recognized for using the latest in technological advances. The award was presented by the Chandler Chamber of Commerce.

“With the use of new and emerging technologies we empower our employees to make family, personal and work schedules as seamless as possible,” she said.

Custom Accounting employee Tena Torgerson said the rule around the office is always to ask “why not” regarding new proposals.

“Every idea is always considered,” she said.
