CCUSD Superintendent’s monthly letter

Dear Parents, Community and CCUSD Staff,

As you may have heard, our Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Override election focused on increasing teacher and staff salaries did not pass. Despite the results, I want to thank everyone who supported this override. Many of you worked tirelessly to communicate the facts and encourage our community to vote.

I would like to leave you with a few thoughts. First, I want you to know how thankful I am that our Governing Board approved this M&O Override election through a 5-0 vote. Living in a state that is ranked 48th in the country for per-pupil education funding makes local funding in Arizona through override elections critical. Unfortunately, this local support for public education has not happened through an override in Cave Creek Unified since 2007.

Second, even though the override did not pass, we will do our best to plan and prepare for this new future. There are many possible options and, as always, we will do our best to find creative solutions to the challenges and opportunities ahead. However, due to the failure, there will be tough decisions that will need to be made in the future. Although this was not the outcome we hoped, we accept and respect the collective vote of our constituents and are committed to providing all CCUSD students with an education of the highest quality.

Our institution serves as a cornerstone to a strong economy and democracy and I want to encourage you to continue supporting and sharing the positive news about our exceptional district.
We look forward to seeing you in our schools.

One Team
