Dark Sky Initiative

As the founder of Cave Creek Dark Sky Initiative, I can say unequivocally that we’ve made a positive impact these last three years bringing awareness about light pollution and its cumulative negative effects from millions of unshielded lights.  The good news? – many people have reported they’ve changed their lighting habits adding shields, timers, and motion detectors since becoming aware of the dangers of light pollution. The unshielded light kept on all night harms not only people but the animals.  It’s so easy to make the changes.  The educational information and materials we have distributed has ‘enlightened’ and achieved self-compliant results.  We’ve made a difference.   Although the Town of Cave Creek Lighting Statutes and Codes clearly call for shielding your lights and turning off lights when not being used, many people don’t always believe that each of us can help improve conditions for the better, but we absolutley can.

I’m announcing to Cave Creek residents, business owners and visitors that Cave Creek Dark Sky Initiative (CCDSI) is producing our third Star Gazing Party event, Saturday, October 15th in the Spur Cross Recreation Area parking lot from 7:00-8:15pm.  I hope you all can attend.  Please arrive by 6:15PM.
