Clarity

Hi, Don, it’s Kathryn Royer.

I appreciate that Carrie took the time to discuss with you the facts behind the cones/signs in the pedestrian crosswalks in the Town Core.

My only role was to encourage our Town to increase safety awareness of these crosswalks since there were at least two different vehicular/pedestrian accidents that required trips to the ER as reported by local witnesses. With the busy month of March and April ahead of us at that time, I vigorously asked Carrie what we could do to better protect our residents and visitors in the crosswalks. Thankfully, the Town Engineer developed a plan based on his judgment, outside professional recommendations, and budget.

We all agree that this temporary solution isn’t perfect, but it has worked to raise crosswalk awareness, slow down traffic and to my knowledge, not one pedestrian has been hurt since they’ve been installed.

Don, I do hope you will clear my good name with your readers now that you know the background.  As a Council Member, I was excited to share with our community that the Town was listening and responsibly responded to their safety concerns.

Sincerely,

Kathryn Royer
