Cave Creek Town Council pursues consultant for 2020 General Plan

The council meeting opened with brief, supportive remarks from the mayor regarding the Cave Creek Rodeo this weekend and the Town Manager reported a significant rise in guests inquiring at the relatively new, volunteer run visitors bureau – up from 214 in October to over 500 this past February.

Two items were on the agenda:

– After some confusion over the legalities of public comment on substance, the council voted to defeat the “Motion to reconsider Ordinance 02019-01,” related to “signage,” by a count of 4-3.

– The Cave Creek Planning Commission then reconvened to facilitate a round table discussion with council members regarding the 2020 General Plan.

The primary points raised by most were directed to readability issues, verbiage, length, interpretation and being understood – not the quality of the document. The other point was compromise – in that, if you have 7 points of interest and a person is against just one, the no vote takes them all off the table. Currently operating from the 2005 Plan, the choices were to clean up 2005, resubmit as is, or continue to improve the new offering. Ultimately, it was agreed upon that what was needed was an outside consultant that could offer support in marketing and educating people on the details of a project of this magnitude. As the town council has the ability to hire, it was agreed upon to direct the staff to pursue said consultant. The motion to do so passed, 7-0.
