Preparing trees for summer

For those of us who stay in the valley of the sun over the summer, we are well aware of what excessive heat and monsoon winds can do to our Arizona desert trees. Can we prepare them to withstand these conditions and help prevent significant storm damage from occuring? You bet! On Saturday, March 9, Carefree Desert Gardens welcomes Sarah Maitland, ISA Certified Arborist and an ISA Tree Risk Assessor. Sarah will discuss how to recogize and correct health issues in our trees caused by insects and improper watering. She will talk on soil improvements and basic pruning concepts to prevent wind damage. The program, usually including a plant raffle, will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run approximately until noon at the Town Council Chambers at 33 Easy Street and Nonchalant Avenue, Carefree. A $5.00 (or more) donation is appreciated to support these programs. For information call 480-488-3686.

Come early. Seating is limited.
