Governor Ducey appoints New Director of Arizona State Parks and Trails

Governor Doug Ducey today announced the appointment of Robert Broscheid as the director of Arizona State Parks & Trails. Since 2013, Broscheid has served under Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper as the director and chief executive officer of Colorado Parks & Wildlife, where he focused on improving conservation and sustainability initiatives and strengthening public-private partnerships to improve customer experiences. Prior to his work in Colorado, Broscheid served at the Arizona Game and Fish Department for 18 years, including as the deputy director for the agency from 2008-20013.

Under Bob’s leadership, Colorado produced the first comprehensive and broad-based Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan to further outdoor recreation and the conservation of natural resources into the future. Bob also led efforts to expand access to Colorado’s state parks, establishing programs to connect young and underserved populations and their families to outdoor and recreational opportunities.

“With Bob’s extensive leadership background in wildlife and outdoor management, I am pleased that he will be back in Arizona working to protect our natural parks and promote our recreational assets,” said Governor Ducey. “Arizona offers the most spectacular state parks of anywhere in the country. Bob is well-qualified to lead the preservation of these natural wonders for the benefit of Arizonans and future generations.”

“I’m honored to be joining Arizona Parks & Trails and look forward to working with the dedicated men and women at the department to explore new opportunities to enhance Arizona’s parks,” said Director Broscheid. “Arizona is full of diverse landscapes, rich cultural history, and outdoor recreation opportunities. These parks belong to everybody, and my top priorities will be to help preserve and protect these natural resources for the enjoyment of all visitors.”

“I applaud Governor Doug Ducey’s selection of Bob Broscheid to serve as the Director of Arizona State Parks,” said former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper. “His dedication and commitment to public service has led to unparalleled success here in Colorado. Bob is an incredible leader with a strong vision, and will serve the people of Arizona extremely well and with the highest integrity.” Broscheid holds a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management from Arizona State University and is a graduate of the National Conservation Leadership Institute.
