Cave Creek Town Marshal statement on fundraising effort

The Cave Creek Cares event is a perfect example of why people love Cave Creek. Cave Creek is a small town that pulls together and helps our families as they experience tough times. Alex’s brother, Chef Carlos is the Chef Owner of Indigo Crow. Anytime anyone needs help or donations in Cave Creek, Indigo Crow always steps up to the plate donating food and Gift Cards to everything from fundraisers to help injured Police and Fire Fighters to Gift Cards for School Fundraisers. The Cave Creek Cares event is simply a way for the community to give back to Chef Carlos and his family during this terrible tragedy.

On October 12, 2018, Alex Marquez was helping his brother, Chef Carlos, Chef Owner of Indigo Crow prepare for The Taste of Cave Creek. An unfortunate accident occurred in the kitchen, resulting in Alex being burnt by boiling water and steam over 80% of his body. Alex was flown to the Maricopa County Burn Center in critical condition and after a hard fought battle, Alex succumbed to his injuries on October 25. Alex was a Son, a Brother, a friend, a Husband and a Father. Alex was married to the love of his life Mari and was the father to a beautiful one year old daughter Mila. Alex was an army veteran and a member of our community who would talk to anyone whenever he would visit Chef Carlos at Indigo Crow. If you met Alex as a stranger, you always left as a friend. The loss of Alex is a terrible tragedy. Cave Creek Cares is coming together to feature a fundraiser with all proceeds going directly to Mari and Mila to help them face the huge medical bills associated with Alex’s injury and subsequent death. Cartwright’s Modern Cuisine, Harold’s Corral, Indigo Crow and The Buffalo Chip have all come together to put on this wonderful Cave Creek Cares Event. Great Food, a live concert, a silent auction and most of all, support to Mari and Mila Marquez when they need it the most. Cave Creek Cares represents what a small town is and what a small town does, we take care of our own. Please come out and support this Cave Creek Cares event and let Mari and Mila know that they are not alone and the Cave Creek Community cares about them.

I am proud to be the Marshal of Cave Creek. The Cave Creek Cares event shows how a small town comes together and cares about our community members. The Marquez Family are members of our community. Chef Carlos owns Indigo Crow and lives here in Cave Creek. His brother Alex was helping Chef Carlos prepare for the Taste of Cave Creek and suffered burns over 80% of his body while helping out in the kitchen. Unfortunately after a diligent battle in the Burn unit at Maricopa Medical Center, Alex passed away. Alex left behind a beautiful wife and a one year old daughter. When our Cave Creek business owners heard of this terrible tragedy, they called and said we needed to put together this Cave Creek Cares fundraiser and support the Marquez family. I know our community will come out and support our the Marquez Family and I am proud to be a part of this event.”
