In memory of Senator John McCain

In the early days, when almost everyone thought we were dreaming the impossible dream, Senator John McCain joined the cause to save Spur Cross Ranch from development. Senator McCain personally supported the efforts of the Friends of Spur Cross in our determination to preserve this precious resource for Cave Creek and all who continue to enjoy its beauty. Senator McCain provided a clear direction of what he could do and what he could not do. He lived up to his word in every way. It was one of my greatest honors to accompany Senator McCain and the then Chairman of the Hopi Tribe, Chairman Sekakaku, on a tour of the Spur Cross Ranch. I remember marveling at Senator McCain’s intense interest in the land,  his encouragement to those seeking its preservation, and his lightening quick humor.

The next time you enjoy the beauty of Spur Cross, regardless of your politics, say a thank you to this great patriot. May Senator McCain rest in peace and may his family be comforted in their loss.
