Spotlight award to go to Carefree

The Maricopa County Department of Environmental Quality will be presenting its Spotlight award to the Town of Carefree at the August 7 Town Council meeting. The Spotlight award is presented by the MCDEQ to an entity that has demonstrated excellence in air quality efforts. Carefree was chosen because of the use drones instead of fireworks on the Fourth of July. Bob Huhn of MCDEQ said, “Fireworks are a huge issue for air quality.” He cited the smoke and debris as detrimental to air quality. Huhn also says the reduction in noise is a benefit to environmental quality as well, especially for pets and other animals as well as those suffering from PTSD.

The spotlight award being presented to Carefree is being awarded by Maricopa County Department of Air Quality, not environmental quality.
