Congressman David Schweikert of the sixth district deserves credit for the stand he took against Donald Trump on August 22. As the only House member of the Arizona Freedom Caucus who refused to attend Tuesday’s rally, Schweikert sends a message to Trump and his supporters that there are some places he will not go and some presidents he will not support, no matter what their party.
In the same way, Schweikert should be praised for being the only GOP House member from Arizona not to support a pardon for the convict Joe Arpaio. It’s a pity more GOP House members won’t similarly disavow the politics of hate and division in standing against Arpaio and Trump.
