Joan Baron, Environmental Artist, urban garden educator, tile maker and desert explorer:

Joan Baron received her BFA from Washington University in St Louis and MFA from the Chicago Art Institute. Her socially engaged art practice addresses sustainable living in the desert, growing one’s own food, food & social justice, and place-making with an emphasis on bringing attention to Nature & our role as a partner in her/our survival.

Joan’s studio/home sets the stage for implementation of multiple sustainable practices, including water harvesting and swales, edible landscapes, pollination gardening, raising chickens, trees for shade and food production, rooftop solar, solar hot water and grey water system.
