Kind of makes you wonder ...
Trenk, Durkin, Monachino and Spitzer slithered out of yet another closed door meeting on January 27 and into a Special Council Meeting to ram through their secret agreement with Mr. Gerald Freeman which gave up the critical east/west trail along Morning Star Road and gave Mr. Gerald Freeman a shiny new paved road. I will call it the Trenk/Glassman Giveaway and certainly it was undertaken in a Special Meeting so no one would notice and the room would be empty.
But thanks to an alert by several trails and open space advocates, the council room was full of very concerned residents. The public had not seen this secret agreement and once the residents had a chance in the meeting to read the agreement, no one except the Slate was buying in to it. Despite the unanswered questions and concerns raised by the residents, Trenk, Spitzer, Durkin and Monachino would not be denied and tried to ram it through on another one of their 4/3 votes. Only a question regarding a potential issue with the Annexation Agreement saved it from approval that night.
The slate then took it up again in the next regular council meeting on February 3 following a long, typically disingenuous and likely illegal public broadcast email from Trenk who was again trying to sell the Trenk/Glassman Giveaway to the public and beg residents to attend the meeting and support it. This is the same Trenk who is purportedly an attorney, a land use and real estate expert and a champion of horses everywhere.
Again, the room was full of concerned hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians, all of whom disagreed with the agreement. This time, there were a couple of real attorneys in the room who answered all of the questions and explained clearly that for a host of reasons the agreement should not be approved. Game over. Now, not even Trenk and his lobotomized bobbleheads could continue to support it and one by one, the Slate members crawled away to go back under their rocks.
But the entire issue is strange. Why did we end up here in the first place? The Slate was clearly willing to throw Cave Creek and its General Plan under the bus for this Giveaway deal and tried desperately in two meetings to do exactly that, but for what?
Freeman did not even want a trail going past his property, much less on it, and has sued for years to prevent it, yet he was now happy as clam to accept a 60 foot right of way and paved road compliments of the Cave Creek taxpayers. Could it be because his land would significantly increase in value because of this access and he would be free to subdivide his many acres or sell at a much greater value? Probably, and that’s easy to understand.
But, what were Trenk, Glassman and the bobbleheads getting? Kind of makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

Never ending story
For more than 100 years the American people have endured progressives’ attempts to twist and distort our constitution. Relentless and committed to harnessing and restricting our freedoms while lying that they are the new face of freedom.
B.O. is hardly the first to reside at 1600. Take Tommy, college professor and first term governor of New Jersey, who called The United States, "...the miserable delusion of a republic," as governor stated, "I shall not be a constitutional governor..." and called a legislatively installed tariff, "...the principal cause of the unequal distribution of wealth." Thomas Woodrow Wilson gave us the 16th Amendment (IRS), the League of Nations (seed stock of the UN, home of despots and dictators) and upon election promised "Change."
Like Tommy, Barry wanted the world to see him as savior. It did not. His 2014 State of the Union speech threatens us with further, wide sweeping, executive orders if he doesn't get his way. Will he target minimum wage, immigration, gun control? All are beyond his constitutional authority. It matters little; he is more committed to his agenda than his pledge to the U.S. constitution.
Seemingly, ignoring even the whining string section of Harry Reid and the brassy notes from Princess Pelosi, Obama blunders on as a one-man band playing the same old tune of redistribution and higher taxes; these are not American values – just the never ending march of socialism. The tonic our nation requires is a mid-term result like that of 1918, a Republican sweep of the House and Senate; Obama's political emasculation.

The Foothills Food Bank mortgage is gone!
It began in March, 2008 with a food bank volunteer coming forward and suggesting we should own our own building and pledging %100,000 to begin our Capital Campaign. Thank you to all the donors that moved it forward so that in December, 2012 we purchased our present location. Donations continued to come in enabling us to renovate the building and move into it in June of 2013. Fast forward to January 2014 – through the generosity of an anonymous donor who gave us a check for $300,000 we were able to write the check in February 2014 clearing us of any indebtedness. The total cost of the facility came to $750,000 and because of all of you who believed in our dream, it has become a reality.
This frees up $36,000 per year that we will be able to use to help those who are seeing hard times; the numbers continue to increase. Since we moved into the new facility and have been using computers to track statistics, we have had 426 new clients. In January 2014 alone we welcomed 47 new clients. People are struggling to make ends meet and because of your generosity we are able to help them by providing food.

Good letter
The letter from Jill Davis regarding sensible steps both Democrats and Republicans could agree upon and pass as immigration reform is so easy to understand, it is hard to believe we can't get Congress to act. Her suggestions regarding securing the border, requiring back taxes be paid and making background checks thorough are so simple, yet would go a long way to fix our problems.
She also suggests we need to insist that those we have elected to represent us begin to do so.

Fairfax, Calif. ordinance bans 'smart' meters
On February 5, the Town Council of Fairfax, Calif. reasserted their right to protect their community and ban "smart" meters by passing – unanimously – an ordinance that forbids any "smart" meters in the town for another 3 years.
The ordinance is a beautiful example of what can happen when a council acts with wisdom and courage, and employs an attorney with brains.
From the ordinance:
1. The Town of Fairfax hereby prohibits the installation of SmartMeters or related equipment. No SmartMeter may be installed in or on any home, apartment, condominium or business in Fairfax, and no equipment related to SmartMeters may be installed in, on, under or above any pubic street or any public right of way.
2. Violations of this Ordinance may charged as infractions or misdemeanors as set forth in Chapter 1.08.010 of the Town Code or as administrative citations as set forth in Chapter 1.10 of the Town Code, in the discretion of the Town. In addition, violations shall be deemed public
nuisances, with the enforcement by injunction or any other remedy authorized by law.
3. The Fairfax Town Manager is hereby authorized to direct all Town Departments, including the Town Attorney, to facilitate compliance with the purpose and intent of this ordinance using the enforcement powers described in the preceding paragraph.
