Soccer TKOs Q-Creek, 2-1
“Stick around high school sports long enough”… and you’ll see a Varsity Soccer game (at Falcon Stadium, Thursday, Jan. 13) called with 4:12 left to play because of the opposing team’s unsportsmanlike conduct – fighting. (Below, l-r) Tri-Capt. Phil Wiltfong’s blistering 1st half shot was rebounded by Tri-Capt. Jacob Donovan for the first Falcon goal and goalkeeper Casey DeBusk, who was strong in the nets before being “mugged” by a Queen Creek striker, frustrated late in the 2nd half by a failed corner kick. At 4:46 of the 2nd, senior Thor Kellin (unavailable for photo) alertly nailed a direct kick for the go-ahead (and winning) goal.
CSHS Head Coach Tony Vos to Sonoran News: “We’ll take the 2-1 victory; but having the game called is not how we like to win. Pretty obvious that after having the game called last season at their home field, Queen Creek didn’t come in here to play soccer.” To exacerbate Coach Vos’s irritation, Tri-Capt. Jack Huettner and defenseman Tyler McKinney were handed beyond-questionable “Red Cards” and will have to sit out Tuesday’s scheduled match at Saguaro. Falcons return home Thursday evening, Jan. 20, for “Senior Night” against McClintock. Guys, keep on keepin’ your cool!
