Basketball briefs
Boys: Varsity’s 72-36 “double-up” of J.L. Combs, Saturday, Dec. 11, highlighted a sweep: JV, 66-38; FR, 58-28. For the “Big Birds,” Mike Rabbanni, Co-Capt. Casey Perrin and Max Gersh were in double figures. Head Coach Tyler Dummett praised Gersh as “the player who’s really stepped up for us in our first four regular season games.”
Poston Butte, with impressive early-season victories over Saguaro, McClintock and Queen Creek will be a big test for the homestanding Falcons on Friday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m. tip. Coach Dummett hopes for the return of junior Austin Horton, sidelined since before Thanksgiving with a high ankle sprain. With “PB” and the Falcs both at 4-0, Friday night’s contest should be an exciting holidays starter.

The LadyBirds will celebrate an at-home Christmas then make their consecutive appearance at the very tough “Energy Classic” in Gillette, Wyo.
