Volleyball, #2-ranked, gets big road win over top-ranked Queen Creek!

Lady Falcons host #4 Saguaro, Thursday, 6 p.m.; Falcon Classic tournament here all day Saturday

QUEEN CREEK – In the mystical world of Arizona Athletic Association Power Points (I promise readers I’ll visit A.I.A. to gain a communicable understanding of the how and why of these newly-formulated calculations), for the week beginning Monday, Sept. 20, the Queen Creek Lady Bulldogs (8-0) were ranked #1, followed by the 6-1 Lady Falcons, then two-time defending champions, 7-0 Sunnyslope, who shut out CSHS here on Sept. 2. Go figure.

When the Lady Falcons made the l-o-n-g haul down to Queen Creek late Tuesday afternoon, something – and somebody – had to give. It wasn’t to be Head Coach Tom Gardner’s LadyBirds! After losing a first-game heartbreaker, 23-25, the Ladies gutted out the next three games, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19, to win the important match. That come-back has to rank as one of the most impressive in CSHS volleyball history. Congratulations, “Coach Tom” and your squad!

Coach Gardner, by cell phone, en route back to The Roost: “We really battled! After that first game disappointment, we just played aggressively on every point. Jordan (Co-Captain Smith, at libero) was phenomenal! And every one of our offensive players really contributed.”

C’mon, Volleyball fans and students! Let’s have a big “Well done!” crowd to greet the Lady Falcons, Thursday evening, Sept. 23, when Desert Sky Region opponent, the Saguaro Lady Sabercats, come calling. Depending upon the length of the Freshman and JV prelims, Varsity’s first serve will be at approximately 6 p.m.
