Local wins World Championship

Working cow horse champ calls Cave Creek home

working cow horseAMARILLO, Texas – Marilyn Harris of Cave Creek and her American Quarter Horse, Irish A Shine, captured the world champion working cow horse title at the American Quarter Horse Association Adequan Select World Championship Show in Amarillo, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 3. This show is open exclusively to amateur exhibitors age 50 and over.

In the working cow horse, 38 entries competed for world champion honors. Harris and Irish A Shine, who is a sorrel mare, won the title and a prize package that included a Montana Silversmiths sterling-silver buckle with 14-karat gold overlay, a neck wreath, custom-designed gold-tone trophy, specially designed and logoed Cripple Creek jacket, rosette with medallion, as well as a cash prize.

Irish A Shine is owned by Harris and is sired by Paddys Irish Whiskey and out of Shine O Lena by Shining Spark. The mare was bred by Carol Rose of Gainesville, Texas.

The 2010 Adequan Select World Championship Show offers exciting competition for American Quarter Horse Association Amateur Select members Aug. 29 – Sept. 4 at the Amarillo National Center. The Adequan Select World Show is the world’s largest, single-breed world championship horse show open exclusively to amateur exhibitors age 50 and older. This is the pinnacle event for amateur Select competitors around the world who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to secure a spot in each of the 41 classes representing English, western and halter disciplines. More than 1,200 entries from the United States, Canada and Austria competed at this year’s event.
