May 6-7 Track Regionals at Queen Creek

FALCON STADIUM – For Geoff Johnson, the Thursday-Friday Desert Sky competition at Queen Creek High School will mark his Regional head-coaching debut.
“I believe we’re going to be competitive in almost every event,” said Coach Johnson. “And for sure, we’re taking to Regionals a group of hard-working teammates who’re ready to go to battle.”
This writer is a sucker for the pageantry and camaraderie of Regionals, so I’m planning to drive down after work on Friday, hoping to catch at least the last three hours of the meet. Fair warning! Falcon Track fans: Queen Creek is right at a 70-mile trip from the Desert Foothills; but what the heck? The drive will give you a visual appreciation of how The Valley of the Sun has boomed into the fifth largest metropolitan area in the United States.
Also, the Football Falcons will play at Queen Creek come fall. For right now, “Good luck, Track Falcons!”
Practice had ended; but these Track athletes obligingly stayed around for a photo. (L-r, with class and events in parentheses): Will Bowers (JR - discus and hurdles), Guy Chadwick (SO - pole vault), Paige Cresswell (FR - discus and shot), Connor Henry (JR - pole vault), Joey Murphy (SO -discus), Chris Noel (JR - discus and shot).
