CSHS – If the 2010 regular season were to end at this Monday night, April 12, writing both the Baseball ‘Birds and the Softball Lady Falcons would make the State Playoffs – and host their 1st Round game.

Each has seven regular season games remaining, including (a) the April 28 rescheduling of their March 9 rain-outs against Sunrise Mountain, and (b) critical home and away tests this week against Saguaro. Falcons host the #1-ranked Sabercats Tuesday, then travel to Catville on Thursday. LadyBirds play at #4-ranked Saguaro on Tuesday, welcoming the Lady Sabercats to CSHS on the Thursday.

Baseball Guys (10-9 overall, 4-2 in Region) are defending Desert Sky Region champions. To keep their D-Sky title hopes alive, they must hand the ‘Cats their first two Region losses. Head Coach Mike Baker knows that’s a tough assignment: “We have to smash ‘em in the mouth at our place on the 13th, then hope to ride that momentum when we play down there two days later.” Pitching ace Jaron Long will start on the 13th, with Ryan Nemger getting the call at Saguaro.

The Sabercats, at home, posted a solid 5-1 win against the Falcons on March 18.

Both Guys and Gals stumbled against Prescott, Thursday, April 8. Falcons were one strike and two outs away from victory before Prescott pitcher Tyler Howard (“The best we’ve faced all season,” Coach Baker) lasered a too-fat fastball for a two-run homer that lifted the underdog Badgers (“Never let an underdog get – or stay – close!”) to a 5-4 come from behind upset.

At Prescott, the Lady Falcons were shooting for their fifth straight win. Didn’t happen. The Lady Badgers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 7th to disappoint the LadyBirds, 5-4. A distaff bummer!

At Saguaro, Camille McIver will take the mound, with Amber Underdown taking the ball at home.
