Dilly’s Deli to host fundraiser for Haiti Earthquake Relief
January 20, 2010
PHOENIX – In the wake of the enormous human tragedy in Haiti, Valley Dilly’s Deli locations have designated 25 percent of all daily sales on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 to be contributed to AmeriCares Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Aid Organization.
Twenty five percent of each dollar spent by patrons at Dilly’s Deli on the assigned Monday will go towards the $15 million worth of aid committed to Haiti by AmeriCares, a fund which provides life-saving aid in times of sudden disasters as well as medicines and humanitarian relief to conflict-ridden countries struggling for daily survival around the world.
Co-owner Jeff Weninger recognizes the opportunity to utilize local business and make an impact through a quality foundation. “Of course there is immediate need in Haiti. But the needs in Haiti go so far beyond immediate” said Weninger. “Designating all collected proceeds to AmeriCares assures that our donation will provide desperately needed medical and necessities to victims of the earthquake. Dilly’s Deli is establishing an opportunity for us, as a community, to help Haiti now and in the long term."
“We know that this disaster, in one of the world’s most impoverished nations, will motivate many in the Phoenix Valley to give. We want to help channel that generosity. Dilly’s selected AmeriCares as our donation destination after finding, through research, that this organization only spends .4 percent on administrative expenses. We want to make sure the collected money is going to the cause and not spent on overhead,” Co-owner Shaun Kelley emphasized.
Canisters will be present at all store registers to collect additional individual contributions.
Dilly’s Deli Valley stores are located in Scottsdale (Thunderbird and Scottsdale), Tempe (Price and Southern), Tempe (ASU University) and Chandler (Alma School and Queen Creek). Dilly’s Deli, a locally owned and operated gourmet sandwich shop, began in 1983 with a simple motivating concept; build the best sandwiches using the finest ingredients for a fair price. Beyond quality sandwiches created on bread made fresh, in-store daily, Dilly’s also features homemade bread bowl soups, salads, side dishes and wraps.
